2024: Our Lock-In Year

by the 8th grade Red Bank Middle School AVID class of 2024

“Life is like a piano— the white keys are happiness,
the black keys are sadness.
At the end of the day,
you need both to make music.”

I forgot the original writer.
Advice I have is:
appreciate rainy and cloudy days
just as much as beautiful, sunny days.
Live, laugh, love.
Work hard, never give up,
and don’t let the little things get to you.
You’re going to be miserable doing hard work.
Still, do it anyway.
There’s always a positive in a bad situation.
You die only once,
but you live every day.
Don’t waste your time
on things that don’t matter.
Life is not perfect
until you try to help
for the better.
Learn to be comfortable
being uncomfortable.
Stay the same
because you should love who you are.
And if you don’t,
you should change that about yourself.
You have to love yourself first
before loving others.
I have to put myself before others
for me to be happy.
I want to know me better.
I wish that this year is good.
I hope to get good grades in the new year.
In 2024, I want to feel accomplished and motivated.
In 2024, I want to be successful.
2024 is my lock-in year.
I predict my sisters and parents’
permission to work comes.
I love my mom—
she has been there since Day One.
She’s the only one who has been with me.
She feeds me. She protects me.
I can’t predict what will happen
but what I can do is trust God.
Life is short. Live it.
