i remember you

by Cesar X., 14

I remember you
The way you laughed with your mouth barely opened
The way you made jokes
The way you didn’t really care what happened or what the outcome was
The way your hair was wavy black and smelled like perfume
The way your smile was big
The way you drove fast and careless in your green car
The way you walked
The way you came home happy and tired
The way you cooked, you could smell the food all the way upstairs
The way you washed the dishes with gentleness so they didn’t break
But
Now you are gone
Like wind, now you are up there with him
Looking after me
The last moment I saw you
You had a white tank top and shorts
You had my cousin on your back
I saw you laughing
Then you were in the ocean washed away
And you weren’t laughing anymore.
