Midnight Letter

by Sydney M., 16

A midnight letter to you
As just the thought keeps me awake
There’s no glory on your own
Yet you continue west
What’s out there for you
When you had me here at home
I wait and I stay and I’m patient
Hoping you’ll be back soon
An unmade bed, a layer of dust on the floor
The lights gone out and you’re still out there
I waited and waited as long as I could
The letter will say
And tears will form as you continue to read
If I’m not here for your return don’t look for me
I’ll be back soon
I promised I’d stay
I will wait forever while you’re going west
Hear my voice on an eastern breeze
Do you hear my waiting
Come home so you’ll never have to read
My midnight letter
