quarantine means campfire

by Sydney J., 15

i will remember this evening
and the way the still-bare-but-budded trees
reached their spindly limbs up,
like veins against the sky,
drinking in the soon-gone sunset
too-soon-gone sunset
the one that trailed on my lips
and filled my mouth,
staining my teeth and choking me
on the overbearing sweetness
of promises yet to be fulfilled
