The Creature that stalks the dark
is tall and lithe and lean.
The Creature that stalks the dark
no one has ever seen.
Yet they speak of his glowing red eyes and
thundering steps that sound like finality.
It’s generally believed the Creature
will bring utter doomed totality.
Old Man Richt knows the tale the best:
“Little ones ought to stay indoors
for one moonlit night, years ago we found
a child’s body, strewn with gore.”
So when you are outside, unawares,
be prepared to turn your head,
for the Creature that stalks the dark
is out there, unsatiated, unfed.
