the sun gave up on rising

by Emily C., 15

Looking up all I see is infinite blue the hue is dark enough to shroud batches of stars, the waves could lull me to sleep.

The sun is wishing to peak, I’ve been waiting so patiently for warm neons nowhere to be seen.

Trapped in a spherical realm based solely on wind currents my clothes clinging to invisible energy.

Waves are speeding up as the gears of my brain wake in rotations and the water crashes before falling down to a steady beat.

Flat clouds lay above a lake full of scuttling whitefish but the light can’t escape the frame of overcast.

Twilight is passing everything can be seen except Earth’s blazing furnace.

Instead, the sight I receive is beneath me; my toes hidden in the sand.
