what did I love about painting the sunrise?

by Jessica M., 17

hues of daffodil yellow

and burnt orange

stretching across the sky

jumpropes on the verge of breaking

The clouds strolling slowly

The sky a sidewalk

Puffs of ivory brushing against the blue

And naked pencil marks

masked behind layers

of warm paint

as if they were ashamed

My hands escape

Flowing like river currents

No clear direction

The final destination

morphs shadows

And light

captured within the bounds of the canvas

Kaleidoscope of

soft cerulean and

cold crimson

behind a mirror of sky

Moon and sun become one

Lovers holding one another

in a delicate caress
