What if … it’s OK … to want?

by the 11th Grade Dream Academy at Asbury Park High School

I want
too many things
things that aren’t
clothes, shoes, or jeans
things that aren’t
an iphone, headphones, or a TV

I want to have a nice, supportive
stable career/job.
I want to start my six-figure hair business.
I want money.

I want to succeed, improve,
and innovate.
I want to love my mom.
I want to change.

I don’t want
to see
pain
tears
heavy hearts
madness
rudeness

I don’t want people who think
they know everything.

I do not want to become
a useless person.
I don’t want to stay stuck here.
I don’t want to be broke.
I don’t want to be in debt.

I don’t want her to leave.

I don’t know the real meaning of life.

I don’t want to stress myself out
with the future.
But time is moving fast.

It’s OK to be selfish.
It’s OK to lie.
It’s OK if you don’t make as much money as me.
It’s OK to not be OK.
It’s OK to get frustrated.
It’s OK to feel lost in life sometimes.

What if I get money?
What if I change what I want to be
in the future?
What if things were different?

I want us forever.
I want to find peace.
