Why I Write

by 2025 TA Interns: Sarayu B., Skyla B., Gabrielle F., Sloane M., Abe N., Janin S., Nora S.

A reassuring smile, a single touch,
anything beautiful can be outstretched for pages
I will keep with me forever.
I write in the silence of the night
when I feel something is listening.
I write to finish long 6 page essays
lined with dry introductions and conclusions.
It challenges the idea
that there’s only ever one right answer.
I write because admiration is easy,
but genuine affinity is restless.
Words are a medicine,
feeding and healing wounds we often neglect
until they infect our souls
and we can no longer ignore the consequences
they have caused.
I write because a blank piece of paper
is a world of endless possibilities,
and a pencil is my mentor,
guiding me throughout the way.
